For a newbie teacher about to start his TEFL career would you recommend Thailand or Vietnam to start with. I plan on going out somewhere with my degree and doing the CELTA on location then job hunting. What would you say the pros and cons of each country are? |

Yes, that was a pretty good thread for this topic.

Well, you could do your CELTA in one country and then move to the other if you want. Figure out where you want to do your CELTA first, since that's quite different from working as a teacher. Not sure what all your options are but I would imagine Bangkok, Chiang Mai, or Phukhet in Thailand and Hanoi or HCMC in Vietnam. Is there are CELTA course in Pattaya?
Hopefully, someone can add some info regarding that.
Then, by the time you finish, you'll have a lot more info and contacts about work, plus some personal experience of living in the region and will be able to make a much more informed choice about where to work.
In general, Vietnam is now more politically stable and economically stronger than Thailand. On the other hand, Thailand is considered by many to be more enjoyable and foreigner-friendly than VN. |
