I'm guessing that this passes for witty repartee among the high school crowd these days. What marvelous representatives we have abroad.

So this would be a bad time to discuss proper use of apostrophes?

Dead on, Longer. I plan to start negotiating after CNY for next year. If I don't get at least a 25% raise, then it is probably not worth it to stay. I got a 60% raise last year and I'd really like another one of those Laughing

You need 85% over two years for it to be "worth it to stay"? What did you start at? ¥5,000?

Shanghai Noon,

I started at ¥8K and the school likes me. I have no idea why, but who am I to question such sound judgement? We just got rid of a loser (pedophile) Brit and hired someone from the States - it was difficult. The US economy is doing well and China is just not as attractive as it used to be. Factor in the coming devaluation and this place kind of stinks. (Well, actually, it always stinks but that's another story.) I plan to point out to them that it is ever so much easier and cheaper to keep me happy than it is to start all over again.

Fair enough. I'm Canadian, and the value of the Canadian dollar has fallen from $1.00 US to $0.70 since I came to China so I'm laughing all the way to the bank Cool

Isn't it the devaluation of the RMB relative to other currencies that is the problem.
Certainly currencies that are also devaluing (Canadian) may mask the effect for a time, but in the end we are all screwed.

Nothing so difficult to do as predict exchange rate movements, but a solid article which attempts to do so for those interested in that for the RMB-USD.
