British police must earn a lot more than their U.S. counterparts, for the cost of "policing his confinement" to have reached the £3.6 million being claimed.

.

Those guys who stand outside the Ecuadorian embassy must be on $1,000 an hour. I´ll do it. It beats teaching English. What do New York cops earn?

The New York Police Department is the largest municipal police force in the United States. Rookie cops in the NYPD receive a base salary of $41,975 per year. Total compensation, comprised of base pay and payments covering uniform costs and other considerations, amounts to $44,744.

Starting teacher salaries range from $45,530 (bachelor's degree, no prior teaching experience) to $74,796 (bachelor's degree, master's degree plus 30 credits, 7.5+ years teaching experience). Teachers who have a master's degree but no teaching experience will start at $51,425.

New York: Veteran teachers who add to their pay by working summer school and mentoring new teachers can lift their salary into the $120,000 to $130,000 range

But that doesn't include overtime, special details, etc.

The NYPD's top overtime earner is a sergeant in the detective bureau who pulled in $82,115 in extra pay last year, city records show.

Frank Galasso, 37, a 15-year veteran, padded his regular $112,574 paycheck with 909 hours of extra work — amounting to more than 113 days of overtime.
