It was working fine but stopped yesterday. I've never had this happen before and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I'm not that great with IT but anything I can do?

I don't use Astrill as I had major problems with them initially, however since yesterday my VPN has become almost unusable and even without using a VPN the speed is insanely slow.

Overnight I received an email from my VPN provider (see below) which may have something to do with this situation.

A quick reminder for our customers in China: starting this weekend there will be a number of meetings in Beijing, held by the NPC and CPPCC. As is customary during these meetings, the authorities will crack down on all things Internet. With or without VPN, you're likely to experience significantly slower connections than usual.

From past experience we know that introducing work-arounds while the meetings are still in progress only causes the crack-down to intensify. For this reason, when you contact our support team, we may temporarily recommend you to use other VPN methods or other VPN servers than you prefer. Once the meetings end, on the 14th, we'll make sure your favorite VPN methods and VPN servers are fully restored again.

Is it such a good idea to discuss these things openly?

Anyway the stealth mode works just fine for me.

It's hit and miss at the office due, I suspect to a slow speed connection but here at home, apart from the blocking during the Spr. Fest., it's worked out well. I followed the advice to switch from a US to a Singaporean server using Stealth during the SF and that did the trick

I connect the pptp through their tokyo server no problems. Did you install it manually or through their program?

Had to restart my router. I also have it set to reconnect every second. Sometimes, it goes around and around and eventually connects.

Looks like the authorities have the upper hand in this cat and mouse game over censorship.

Seems if they really want to close it off they can.

it sucks man
because I keep in touch with family and friends through facebook so I need my vpn.
