Can someone please tell me which nationalities are permitted to teach LEGALLY in Vietnam? I'm assuming that it will be like most N-E Asian countries, that is:
USA, the UK, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Thanks. |

I can't list all the nationalities who are permitted to seek employment in Vietnam (because I don't know them all), but I do know that all those you listed are definatley permitted to work in VN.
You might find more info at a cosulate or embassy website. Check with the Vietnamese embassy in your home country. |

Thanks viva. Although I will admit that I suspect that one needs a TEFL certificate to teach legally in Vietnam, which I do not have.
Still though, it sounds pretty easy to just work under the table, so I'll probably go that route. |

Perhaps some more knowledgable posters can correct me or confirm this, but I don't think that a TEFL or CELTA, etc is a requirement for obtaining a business visa to work in VN.
Having TEFL is helpful in finding a higher paying job, but from what I've read I think the only requirement for obtaining a work visa is a university degree. You should be able to find work legally without a TEFL certificate. Those with the certificate benefit from higher wages and top end jobs, but teaching is still entirely possible without it.
Can anyone confirm this? |

BuddyB.
Have you thought about taking a 2 week TESOL or 1 month CELTA course in Bangkok?
Might be a good thing to have if you plan on doing any travelling and teaching.
I think the CELTA was $1, 400 US but the 2 week TESOL is about half if I remember correctly. |

Yeah, I most definitely have. I've been considering the CELTA for quite a while now. Hopefully before the end of this year I'll finally get around to it.
Those prices you gave me don't look too bad. Thanks. |
