The rumors of his removal have been percolating for quite awhile. The students were working very hard to push it along... but... we'll have to wait and see.

I suspect that most of his changes will stand.

Does HCT require an MA to teach there or is a Bachelors + CELTA enough?

Years ago, you could slide under the door at CERT (HCT's profit-making arm) with that combination. Nowadays, it seems that ANYthing hinting of HUMANITES will go against its corporate culture! Rolling Eyes

And the latest in the saga. You may recall that in the last chapter, HCT had insisted on a new "credential certification process" for all teachers. When actually HCT had always had one of the most effective and efficient process of checking credentials by ordering an official transcript from the universities attended by their faculty. But now they want to go back to High School grades... and maybe elementary school... at huge expense... with the Ministry not having a clue what they are doing or how to do it. Everyone has basically been informed that they should consider themselves without a job unless this process was finished. Only a handful had been completed my last report. Most people hit major hurdles.

Apparently the VC suddenly figured out that he was going to have no teachers at all next year since he had instigated a process that his ministry minions were unable to complete on a timely basis. So today he sent out a message to all:

Quote:
Dear Colleagues,

In view of the feedback received from faculty concerning the delay and challenges they experienced in obtaining their equivalency documents from HOHE by April 30, 2016, HCT Executive Council has recommended that faculty with ending contracts for this year to be extended a renewal option for one year subject to approvals from the concerned Executive Dean and Campus Director based on faculty’s performance.

Nevertheless, obtaining the MOHE equivalency remains a strict requirement for all faculty as per CAA accreditation requirements.

I personally thank you for your hard work and commitment to HCT.

Regards,

So, it appears that everyone has a year's reprieve to finish this stupidity... or more likely find another job. Mostly I have been hearing from people who have resigned or are resigning or just plain are planning not to return at all.

I want to thank all of you that emailed and PMed me a copy of this one.

How many of these supervisors are British?

What supervisors?

What level(s)?

Academic Coordinators who had received shortened teaching loads and higher pay have been told that the extra pay is gone and they will be teaching full loads. Not sure if they are still expected to coordinate. I expect that most of those are expats.

All the current problems are coming 100% from the Emiratis who have been put in at all levels... particularly top management in Central Services and all colleges.

VS,

Thanks for your reply.

So, VS, I've always wondered how in the hell are you so in-the-know for someone who is back in the US now and retired from the Middle East and overseas TEFL?

VS is actually a balding, overweight Pakistani account executive who works for AXA Insurance just off of Defaa Street in Abu Dhabi.

He gets most of his first-hand information at "49ers The Gold Rush" on the top floor of the Dana Hotel where he throws darts with his British mates and swills Guinness every Saturday night.

Although I like izmigari's theory...

There is a wonderful new invention called the internets. If you could see my email inbox and PM inbox above, you would know where I get my information... from teachers currently or lately working at the various colleges/universities around the Gulf who prefer not to post here because of spying employers.

The April edition of the EL gazette newsletter features
the current situation at the HCT colleges in a full page article.

Under the headline:- "Teachers complain about UAE changes"
it details the problems which have ensued from teachers being required to have all their qualifications;
even as far back as SATS scores,
(irrespective of whether or not they received any SATS scores at all), Rolling Eyes
formally attested by the end of this month.
In some cases, it appears that notarisation has been demanded, too.

This article is on page 16...

Again the rumor of the termination of the VC is coming from some sources. It is the weekend there, so I have no confirmation.

Let's hope that this credential re-certification stupidity goes with him...

Just heard the latest annoyance for the HCT staff, the VC notified all of the upcoming 3 day National Holiday in May in one email, shortly followed by a correction, making the National holiday on Thursday a work day along with the Saturday for exams... Rolling Eyes

Welcome to the Gulf.

I'm sure your Emirati colleagues are just as miffed.
