I have applied for a position with the National Guard in Riyadh.
It is through a British recruiter (I always (wrongly it seems) thought it was an American gig).
Can anyone give any background on the job or the place? It is obviously a military position teaching foundation year cadets. Any thoughts how it compares with BAE in that respect? Better/worse etc.
Apparently they have relatively small classes (12 cadets - 40 minute lessons).
The pay is not great, but is ok. Compound accommodation, single status contract.
Much obliged.

eslteacher2014 - I am not at all sure. That is why I posted to get more clarity....
As I said the recruiter is British, and it is teaching military cadets.
I don't know anymore... |

Dear sandboy,
PMs remain in the Outbox until the intended recipient opens them. The fact that they are in the outbox means they have been sent.

Dear John
Thanks very much for that.
Sadly I deleted them from the Outbox hoping that would help so I will rewrite and resend them!
Cheers

Thank you very much Leggey.
I just responded in kind.
Hoping for some more info on here from someone who is working there now or has worked there previously. |

All military jobs have good benefits but are awful jobs. Both BAE and GPT/SANG have very high turnover rates and the latter have resorted to temporary business visas for the probationary period. BAE have now even outsourced their recruitment and use contractors, who work on 'rolling 3 month contracts'.
Frankly, all of this is disgraceful and symptomatic of the decline in direct hire positions in KSA. I turned down an offer with GPT because of their refusal to issue a work visa and their lack of transparency during the application process.

Hi burgess29
Do you personally know people who have worked at GPT/SANG? I only ask this because of the comment about high turnover rates. I'm not doubting this information given the exigencies of military contracts but I have been unable to find any feedback of any nature online about this particular gig so I'm guessing you know this from experience.
I'm still unsure what to do with regard to this position. I'm really looking for a fixed idea about teaching hours - the difference between the advertised 20 and the 30-35 mentioned at interview is substantial - the compound and management attitude.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

No, I actually think you're already "sure" what you're going to do. You just want to find someone here that'll support the position you've already decided on which is to accept the job. It's not going to happen....altho below, I'm going to suggest you take the job.
I urge you to re-read burgess20's posting and heed what he said. It couldn't be any clearer. The job is bound to be "awful"
If you're "under 40" or better "under 30" as I was when I worked for Vinnell, it'll be easier for you to make a go of it. After 40, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
If you need the job which I'm sure you do, you should take it. If you don't you'll always be cursing yourself for not at least trying it. But it's going to be rough in ways you can't even begin to imagine.
Finally, I urge you to read the recent post below which dealt with pretty much the same subject as this thread (BAE, Vinnell, etc). I have a posting there towards the end which mentions Vinnell. Read especially the last page of the 2 page posting.

If you go, at least know what you'll be getting into. Believe me, the "number of contact hours" will be the least of your worries. |

pay is not great? where have you been working? The salary of 16667sar a month is in my view actually quite good.
by the way classes are always small as MOD contract restricts to no more than 12 but sometimes only 6. |
