I have a Canadian friend who applied for and was given a Saudi Visa from the Saudi consulate in Bangkok; while in Bangkok, but I have been told by an agent that I need to fly back to the UK (they are a US company) to apply for a visa. Does anybody know if it is possible to get a visa for Saudi at a consulate outside your own country?

That decision is per the prospective employer.

That was my experience too. Depends on the employer.

According to the agent, I could do a business visa or tourist visa in Bangkok, but a work visa has to be done in my home country

Apparently the company you applied with offers the option of bona fide employment (with a proper work/employment visa) or sponsorship only (via a business/work visit visa). Be aware the latter equates to zero legal protection and recourse if the company decides to screw you over.

They only allow the work visa, they will not consider the business visa route. That in itself is great (I think), though not good for me.

Was that a work visa or a business visa? I have the numbers of the UK and Thai Saudi Embassiy so I will find out for sure and give a definitive answer. I am kinda hoping I can do this long distance with the Saudi embassy in the UK, but I don't have a lot of hope

Yes - the embassy stated which doctor had to sign the certificate.

Just as an update for those with any interest, I have received some info from the embassy and agents. If you live in Thailand and have been on a non O visa for more than a year, you can apply for a wortk visa in Thailand and not need to go back to the UK. However, as far as employers are concerned, it is up to them. I have been offered 2 positions in Saudi in my circumstances, but at lower end jobs (inc QEHC) at low wages (9,000 SAR), so read into that what you will (and what I did). Cheers

Those uber-low offers are likely due to your Thai BA in TESOL and/or lack of experience with adult learners.

If you're still interested in KSA, you might see if any of the colleges of excellence (vocational schools) are currently recruiting.

Thanks. This is one of the routes I'm taking.

I actually think mitr is the agency not the employer that cares (but not always so) about the place of the degree.

I am alsoo meeting problems with employers wanting me to get my visa fromn my home country. The more I look into and get info about this, the more it seems like Thailand, nothing set in stone, and up to the people you talk to.

That is life though, and I'm happy to try and work the system as much as the system is trying to work me
