there is a school I really like, and it seems they are also very interested in me.
After they asked my about my salary expectations, I politely said I would like to have the same salary like I had at my last University (which was about 20 % higher than the usual salary in my expertise)
They answered that they need to check about "taxes", and how to handle this case.
I am hoping that they understood my salary expectation as after-tax.
How do schools usually handle this? Don't they advertise salaries as after-tax because the taxes are already calculated into that amount? (like my former school apparently did)
And if they try to play the card of a before-tax salary, any tips how I can diplomatically convince them that I was hoping for at least the same amount on my account like at my last school?

I've found it to be the same as at home.
Jobs advertised at a before tax figure as tax is personal and may depend on things like number of dependents.

Just be honet when they mske an offer.

Be prrpared o wslk away. I was offered 13000 after tax. Said i wanted 16. Held.firm. they said if the students likr you we will give you 16 (which is a lie. They would never imxrease) do not trust word of mouth. If contravt says 13 and they promisr verbally to bump to 15 they won't. So i walked. They came back with 14 a week later but i had another job accepted.

I kind of feel being in the weaker position because I really want the job (or maybe they feel the same?, it's a poker game)
On the other hand I don't know how flexible they are financially.
Is it a good tactic to say I accept it as before-tax salary, but I want a raise after one semester if they are pleased with me? (Even if it would be only in form of raising the overtime-rate in the contract)
I know already they want me to a certain degree, but I don't know how much..

I just noticed, I am not an experienced negotiator
