"rat infested neighbourhood" I've never seen a rat in Riyadh, but plenty of cats.

Al Hussan nightmare Saudi run company reems and cheats employees. IS there besides SCOT KFUPM and serious outfit or company out there. Its hard to believe that an entire country can be run on something straight out of Dumb and Dumber but besides maybe Aramco schools does anyone have some real standards anywhere in KSA?

Apply direct hire if you've got the qualifications (relevant MA + experience). Otherwise, you're limited to "Dumb-n-Dumber."

Gee, that wouldn't have anything to do w/ the 9000 SAR base salary they offered you? I swear their wages must be the lowest in the Kingdom.

I was offered 9,000 too. After a 10 minute interview I was sent a contraact to sign. I told them i would need a bit more money, and haven't hreard anything since. I would be interested to knowe how much you could get going direct rather than through companies like these

They were offering 12,000 SAR a few years back.

I do know a few teachers currently earning the eye watering 9,000 SAR basic salary. To rub salt in the wound, they live in absolutely filthy conditions and they are docked pay every time they go to Bahrain for visa renewal.

I have stopped showing sympathy to these idiots. There are always alarm bells before they come over here yet they decide to blindly follow.

Keep in mind, not all universities recruit directly. Plus, you'll rarely see salaries for direct-hire positions posted because pay is usually calculated based on the job candidate's specific qualifications/verified experience.

The following are direct-hire opportunities:
You might take a look at The skinny on direct-hire university opportunities.

KSU were only offering 12500SAR at the Birimingham recruitment drive last month according to an email I had from the recruiter. Therefore, it doesn't matter if you have an MA for Saudi, the pay is the same for a BA almost.

Reread my entire post; I was referring to direct hire. King Saud University (KSU) doesn't recruit and hire expat EFL teachers but instead outsources that HR function to private contracting companies, which become the actual sponsors/employers. In fact, see the very recent thread: KSU Bidding war between companies.

Saudi Arabia is in danger of going bankrupt, less money from the government, less money available to companies, less doggy treats to teachers. Anybody who plans his education on the basis of heading to Saudi Arabia and making really good money off of a no longer existing cash cow is a fool.
