Does a gap in contract dates mean teachers go out?

I am switching from one university to another. The contract for the old school ends June 31. That is also the date when the residence permit expires. The contract for the new school begins September 1.

Does that mean that the new residence permit must be issued starting September 1 and that I'd have to leave the country during that gap? Are the residence permit dates always set to match the contract dates?

You are usually allowed to remain a few days beyond your residence permit expiration. This allows the school time to renew your permit if you renew your contract and stay in the school. It also gives you time to move from one school to another.

Others may have differing experiences.

Why don't you ask your new school to begin your new residence permit on June 31st ?

Question I'm not so sure about this. Personally, I wouldn't risk this.
