Hi everyone,

So I'm currently fresh out of university and starting a 120-hr TESOL certification. I'm looking at working in Asia for about a year, but afterwards, I would like to work in KSA. I know that Saudi demands a pretty extensive list of qualifications, so my question is: After obtaining a years experience in Asia, having a B.A. in English with a TESOL certification and being a native English speaker with American nationality, would I be able to get hired? If not, what should I do to ensure that I am hired?

All tips and advice welcome! Thanks!

Use current Saudi job ads as a guide for what employers are looking for. However, I suggest you stay in Asia for several years rather than just one, and hopefully, teaching adults.

It's all kindy in asia. And half the salary of KSA. eg 2.1m won in korea, 15000rmb in china, 62000taiwan dollar in taiwan, 250,000yen in japan (slightly higher in japan but offset by high rents)

I would go and enjoy yourself in Japan, China or Thailand and then think about KSA in a few years' time.

You would think that that you would be considered a native-speaker; however, there are universities in the Middle East that will not accept that you are a native speaker. Applicants with parents from the subcontinent sometimes face this issue.

Well the thing is I will need to move to KSA after a year, so I don't have the option of staying 2-3 years in Asia. As of right now, I heard back from an offer in Korea but it would be teaching kids (elem, middle, or high school). However, I have experience teaching young adults (18-22) from my certification internship, but it's only two months experience. Will teaching kids completely cut me off from KSA?

One year of experience that entailed teaching just children won't cut it. Plus, volunteer teaching and internships don't count as valid (professional/paid) experience.

If anything, you're likely to catch the eye of the sketchiest of contracting companies. Again, look at current job ads for KSA to get an idea of what employers expect.
