Weren't they also told that the above-mentioned (ticket allowance and holiday pay) will be received as part of the final settlement? |

It's a Jeff Beck song "I'm Going Down".
Listen to the song you can imagine the Saudis in thobes and bhurkas doing a little devil dance to the music. |

Hey chillax! I was not disputing what you wrote. This is what some of the female ICEAT teachers have reported. Are you saying it's not the case? |

I am chilled. I just get a bit irked when 'Hear say' is reported as factual. To answer your question, the answer is NO!
Since this debacle started in March, there has been no communication from anyone regarding where we stand. Yes, there have been plenty of canteen rumours, but from the cowardly ICEAT? Zilch!!!! |

Bountyhunter, thanks for the clarification. Yes, the contractors have remained unforthcoming with just about all information, which has caused teachers to feed off of suppositions. EDEX is in the same league. Hopefully, concrete information will be formally released soon. |

I've heard ICEAT are having trouble with their contracts. This comes from a friend of mine who currently works for ICEAT.
Anyway, I had an interview with them. The interviewer was impressed with me and sent me an email that seemed like I was going to be offered a position. But after months and months of nothing, I sent someone working in recruitment for ICEAT an email asking what's going on. First they wanted two references. After sending them that information, they then said someone will be in touch. It's been weeks and no has been in touch. I sent another email asking for an update but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears.
I know many Saudi recruiters are notorious for being known to take a lot of time in processing applications and offering positions, is this normally the case? It has taken approx 4 months to get to this stage. Should I not bother?
SBC - now there's a cowboy company. I want to the IATEFL in Birmingham for an interview with SBC, through Tefl Warehouse. It wasn't an interview, more like sit and chat to the recruiter in the middle of a very busy expo with people walking around you and interrupting you. It was a shambles. I couldn't hear the recruiter, nor he could me. And everytime I tried to answer, some of the Tefl warehouse reps, who were listening in, kept trying to interrupt and answer for me. It just reeked of unprofessionalism. In the end I gave him my skype ID and told him to skype me as it seemed to be the better option. He never did.
Lastly, how is al-khaleej? I've been offered a position through them and in the process of processing my work visa, which is taking quite long (in my 5th week). God knows what the SACB are doing. Is al-khaleej managed by a saudi or a westerner? Seems the better companies/recruitment agencies are managed by the latter. |

What did Al-Khaleej offer you, 8000 SAR? They're one of the lowest paying of the cowboy companies. As far as management they are managed by Arabs. Nowadays, an offer from these despicable cowboy companies means nothing, they are simply gathering up a pool of possible teachers. In many cases they have to clear you, the teacher, with the school they are hiring you out to, before it goes as far as processing the visa. They indicate they're going to hire you, then they keep you dangling. Also as you just found out, they select you for employment, then you find out they want recommendations from your previous Arab employers. Being offered the job means nothing. Possessing the visa actually doesn't guarantee employment either anymore. Give the cowboy company maybe 2 weeks to process and send you a scan of the contract with all the Saudi stamps on it, and that's being pretty generous actually. |

Keep in mind, once they've received your acceptance of the offer, Al-Khaleej has to process the block visa request to the Ministry of Labor. After receiving the MoL's approval, the company would then obtain a visa authorization number and an electronic power of attorney authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The entire process can take up to 3 or so weeks (more during Ramadan). Therefore, you're on hold until notified either by Al-Khaleej or your visa agent to start the employment visa application process and requirements. |

They offered 10000 SAR as basic. All the rest is covered or offered as extra on top. I know it's not a lot for Saudi, but it should suit me fine.
I'm not clued up on how the Saudi visa process works, but I've already got a scan of the contract with all the saudi stamps and signatures on. They told me to process the visa and gave me the details of some visa agents to use to help process it. The first part is to attest my CELTA certificate through the SACB. This alone is taking quite a long time. The SACB said 4-6 weeks, but then said they ran into technical problems. I guess it may take them a bit longer considering it's now Ramadan.
Regarding the visa authorisation number, I think they already have one for me. It has a work visa number on my contract, is that the same thing? I spoke to the visa agents (al jazeera and BCS) who had a look at my contract and said it has all the necessary information and paperwork to process the work visa. Its just taking a very long time. But I guess that's Saudi for you. |

That's about right for someone with little to no teaching experience.

So you've already completed your physical exam and lab tests and have provided a criminal background check? |

Criminal background check yes (enhanced DBS and Acro police certificate).
Medical not yet. I'm waiting for my CELTA to be attested by the SACB so I can do everything at the same time; attest my Acro police certificate by the FCO, legalise the CELTA cert through the saudi embassy and do my medical as well. I'm going to be working in London from next week so I should easily be able to do all this. Is it possible to do my medical cheap? Everywhere I've searched in london are quoting £350-400 and private hospitals/GPs are quoting over £600. |

That I don't know. (I'm American.) See Visa and medical fees in the UK. |
