| Nevermind. Thought I saw that on a post here but it's wrong. Income tax is fairly high I guess. |

Income tax is very low here. I think the top tax bracket is 10%. That amount for tax seems way too high and with the wording you should be getting 17k after tax I think. It might just be a mistake they made. Or they listed a high salary to get good candidates but can't actually afford that so they're wheedling you down. I pay 6yuan in taxes on 5k.
I got a small 2bdrm as an apt. Was talking with a teacher at another uni here and the teachers just got moved to the top floors of a brand new building with ocean voews which is sweet.
I use strongvpn which works but it's too slow to get streaming video. They had a special going on at the time. Will try a different one once my subscription is up.
I think the uni gigs are nice if you have something to occupy your spare time. I am looking to do high school next year because I just have too much time and nothing to do really. Could use the extra pay too. |
The top marginal tax rate is quite a bit higher than 10%, but you don't notice it because the first 4800 are exempted from tax. |

This is what I got from mamba some time ago on the tax calculation but until I am there and get receipts . .
14060-4800(nontaxable)=9260
9260*25%=2315
9260-2315=6945
6945+4800=11745
11745+3000 (housing)= 14745
plus the flight is around 15833 rmb/mth
They include housing as part of salary which I don't consider as part of base which makes the whole commitment less attractive.
I know you are in QD now and come from the States so your experience would really help me, regarding the criminal background check what paper did u require, federal or local, notarized, appostilled etc that was accepted by your school and the ministry there?
Moreover, the health check was it requested to be done in your home country before you left?
I am from Canuck land but will probably have similar requirements, wanna confirm.
As an aside, you commented on a law degree, what was your speciality, local or international law? Whatever subjects they think your degree can apply to they will always try to peddle you off as an expert in that field for work duties . . . |

I got notified about the criminal background check too late to get an FBI check. They take about 6 months. I did state-level checks for my work and grabbed an online printout which apparently worked. In retrospect I would probably grab a notarized local check at least, Chinese people love their stamps.
I had to do a basic medical exam back in the states (no xray or ekg) and then another upon arrival. The school was supposed to pay for the one in China but then never did. About 500rmb.
I did family law. I think all they care about is the level of qualification, not what it's in. One of the Chinese professors in the marketing department is a former lawyer as well and I can't imagine his degree and experience being too related to marketing. |

| The FAO was a crazy nutjob. She was supposed to help my Chinese finance and I with locating housing and kept trying to bully my finance, calling her many times during the day and evening. Then making appointments to show us housing, then backing out at the last moment. (we were staying in a school owned apartment for two weeks while we looked for an apartment). The FAO also opened AND searched through my luggage which I had shipped to QD from Shanghai.. "I just wanted to make sure everything is ok" was her excuse. After a week of dealing with this nutter my fiance and I decided to leave QD and Confucious International altogether. I liked the VP who hired me but the FAO was on a most insane power trip to say the least. My guess is that she is probably still there since nobody had the guts to stand up to her. I liked the look of the school and the Laoshan area immensely. But one bad apple screwed up the whole experience for me personally. |
