Cheap for someone else, you can be darn tooten I wouldn't spend my hard earned coin on materials....

So don't. I like the subjects I teach, so I buy books on the subjects.

Up to you!

Agreed.
Many of us spend our first semester developing or buying online resources which we then utilise over and over during our stay in China.
For example my cocktail party question set would by now have been used 00s of times. It was worth the effort because I have a grab and go resource which I know works and at what point in the semester it works best.

I'm not joking, it cost me 450 GBP + traveling costs in London, almost 500 GBP once you do train and lunch, for my medical. Pre Brexit drop that's almost 800 usd.

Plus, the Chinese are so shifty even after I arrive they still insist on doing it again. Sorry, I know in China people will lie and fake things constantly but a UK doc won't just sign it, he even had to get the xray and bloods done off site as a precaution thanks for a medical council suggestion.

What??? You don't need a medical in the UK for a Chinese Z visa.

These are the requirements from a visa agency in London:

ü PASSPORT with at least 2 blank pages, and valid for a minimum of 6 months. The passport must in addition be valid until the final date of departure from China.

ü PHOTOCOPY OF PASSPORT'S DATA PAGE (the main page with all the personal information). If the photo is not on this page, a separate photocopy of the photo page must be included as well.

ü COMPLETED VISA APPLICATION FORM (attached).

ü SIGNED DECLARATION FORM (attached).

ü 1 X RECENT COLOUR UK PASSPORT SIZE PHOTO (48mm x 33mm), taken against a light background.

ü PHOTOCOPY OF THE MOST RECENT PREVIOUS CHINESE VISA, IF ANY. If applying for a multiple entry visa, the copy provided should be of the last multiple entry visa. Hong Kong and Macau entry stamps are not included in this requirement.

ü EITHER LETTER OF DULY AUTHORISED UNIT
OR CONFIRMATION LETTER OF INVITATION issued by the relevant Chinese authorities.

ü EITHER ALIEN EMPLOYMENT LICENCE issued by the government authority for Human Resources and Social Security
OR PERMIT FOR FOREIGN EXPERTS WORKING IN CHINA issued by the State Bureau for Foreign Experts
OR LETTER OF INVITATION TO FOREIGNERS FOR OFFSHORE PETROLEUM OPERATIONS IN CHINA issued by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation
OR REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE of the Chinese branch of an international enterprise issued by the Department of Industry and Commerce
OR FOR COMMERCIAL PERFORMANCES ONLY, AN APPROVAL DOCUMENT issued by the government authority for Cultural Affairs.

Fees:

CHINESE EMBASSY FEE - £96.00 (REGULAR 4-5 WORKING DAY SERVICE) / £123.00 (EXPESS 3 DAY)

OUR SERVICE FEE - £90.00

Prices include VAT.

Should you wish to proceed, please send all documents to my attention at the address below.

Awaiting your instructions.

Kind regards

Marc.

What's more I ASKED his the following questions:

Do you need to provide you degree certificate for the Z visa?

Answer: No

Do you need a criminal record check for the Z visa?

Answer: No

Go figure! 450 quid for a medical that you don't need to have!

To get this:

ü EITHER LETTER OF DULY AUTHORISED UNIT
OR CONFIRMATION LETTER OF INVITATION issued by the relevant Chinese authorities.

The school needs your degrees and medical.

Thanks for trolling though

the school needs to provide a letter it says. It does not say anything about a degree or medical. I am not trolling I am telling you what the agency requested from me in January when I was looking for a job in shenzen. They specifically said, the embassy does not require evidence of your educational qualifications. Laughing

The letter is an invitation from the school given to you. It is provided by the Bureau of whatever in China, a form of the government. They firstly review your details online [passport, career history, medical, criminal record check etc] and then provide the letter to the school.

Oh I see well why didn[t the agency tell me that then Rolling Eyes
where's the medical form? Why don't you just get your GP to sign the medical form for a tenner? He can do whatever blood tests on the NHS for free. no need to go to expensive private doctors in London ripping you off for results that will just be negative. Laughing

Oh I see well why didn[t the agency tell me that then

Are you sure you are ready for China?

Some public health systems don't provide free travel-related certs and procedures.
If you take the Chinese form to your regular doctor, it's likely he/she can sign off a lot of stuff from your existing records.

Ha ha so Larsson Crew got stung for £450 when he could have got it all done by his GP for £20.

You are very linear in your thinking. Maybe LC doesn't have a GP. Many of us leave for China and have no fixed address in our home countries.

Not sure why you would mock someone online after they spent £450 for something they were told they must have, but perhaps was unnecessary.

Oh, wait, now I get it. It's easy to be a bully and mock people on the internet. No risk of a black eye. Ah, modern technology!

BTW LarssonCrew, if it's any consolation, I have paid for the at-home medical three times, knowing it would be ignored and I would do another physical when I returned to China. You are not the only one. I think it's almost de rigueur.

Another medical has been required every time I've applied for a new visa - starting Feb 2004.
I think it protects both parties and really can't understand why on its medical merits it is worth querying.
The cost issue where there is no universal medical coverage is another matter, but hell can we stop infantalizing ourselves. We know these things going in!

I have had two .. one when coming to china (did outside China in 2000 with health department and was able to submit by buying a med check form from a Chinese hosp (that did international health check for Chinese) and just attaching ti to the medical form from Seattle public health ... and one when moving to Beijing 12/13 yrs ago....now if going from work to student .. it is likely you have to have a health check but can be done in China if you stay in china after leaving your job. Extensions of student or work RP's are easy.

There are ins. policies sold by mainland based companies for foreigners.. and are quite affordable...
