3 quick questions...
What type of roles or areas can experienced teachers go into once they decide it's time to put the teaching to bed?
Is it difficult to find something completely difficult if all you've ever done is teach?
Do mcschools offer more chanced for advancement because of their sheer size or will that route always be closed off to you?
Thanks |

Director of Studies, Teacher Trainer, Curriculum Developer (and probably more I haven't thought of). Most require advanced quals. Not necessarily limited to mcschools. |

Many schools in Asia reward experienced teachers who stick around 2 years as a teacher with higher roles such as Academic Coordinator, especially if you show you are diligent. I have been offered such roles myself but I prefer tutoring these days. I have done one DELTA module so far so it is possible without higher quals.
DOS usually involves at least a DELTA but a McSchool in Asia I worked at; whilst being fully legit with work visas and such, had a DOS with only a CELTA and experience. Anything is possible in Asia. |

Kurtz makes a good point that advancement opportunities are also linked to region and local job market. In Europe and North America I think it would be extremely rare to land any 'better' gig without beyond-entry-level quals. Asia remains a different kettle of fish, and I guess there are differentiations among Asian countries as well, but I don't know the area. |

What area of the world are you referring to for your post teaching career and what qualifications do you have as an "experienced" teacher.
IF you mean the far east then there are fewer jobs as DOS and language center small bosses but depending on your qualifications there are opportunities in mainstream education in administration, tertiary education and academia as a lecturer or researcher.
Depending on your qualifications that "something different" but related to education could also lead into authoring and publication, material creation, methods development, public speaking of the conference circuit, or qualifying into a new field (small business or consulting) while you are still teaching.
There is always the option to get into the service industry (hospitality and tourism) but the pay is poor (often worse than EFL).
