Does anyone know how to reliably contact SAFEA in Beijing by phone?

Been there done that. I think you need to contact the people who run the Chinese Foreign Teachers Union. an outfit that is not generally liked in this forum.

There are several phone numbers for SAFEA, but incredibly, very few people speak English there. A common experience for me was to call, ask to speak to someone (in English) then to have the person hang up on me or to have the person give me another number to call which no one answers.

If you're lucky someone will give you a fax number to fax your questions. I've never had questions answered.

There is supposedly a hotel in Beijing that has a SAFEA representative there, but my attempts to call in the past were woefully unsatisfactory.

Do a search for CFTU and you'll find several White List and Black List schools as well as a couple of websites that are supposedly run by SAFEA.

What are your questions or concerns? If your questions or concerns are city or school-specific. you might do well to find the City FAO of that city and talk to those people. They tend to speak English very well and actually care.

Shocked

You have qualified the statement, and maybe it's my scenario that's the outlier (probably the case), but, man...I'm in central and east China and despite a population of a million, there are only four FTs: Two at a prestigious middle school, and two at relatively small university. Franchises and training schools authorized to hire FTs ? Zero. The FAO is a party member to whom you don't want to have to talk and speaks no English, or pretends not to, but her uniformed cadre does so very well.

So...you were being facetious? I can't confidently interpret another poster's "rimshot" commentary.

I believe that the City FAO is better equipped to solve local problems. They're pretty concerned about their reputation. My experience with having the city FAO solve problems is limited, but things have usually turned out well. Had I known about City FAO's I might not have been fired from one position.

No, I'm not being facetious. Deal locally with people who have points to score.
