It depends on your quals and experience. If you are not experienced, it could be a tough gig making all your own classes and getting the materials together. If you are not a professional, qualified teacher, it is good in the sense that the salary is better than most. Those kinds of jobs normally go to qualified teachers.

No housing? That cuts 4-5000 off in a tier 1 city. Still, it's certainly liveable.

Does the position help your career goals? Or can you swing it to make it do so? That's another important consideration.

Completely agree.

15000 with housing is better than 20000 without any housing.

That 20000 looks great but break it down.

20000 before tax is probably 18000 after.

Figure 6-7000 in Shanghai or BJ for a nice place, plus bills takes it to 8000 [winter heating in BJ, air con in summer, gas, electric, internet].

Take away 1000 for phone, general things you need for work such as public transport [getting the subway every day or you're shattered after a day at work and take an 80 rmb taxi home?]

So that essentially leaves you with 9000 spending after all that, less than half of what you originally thought.

No return airfare? Knock another 1000 off per month to pay that.

How about visa costs? Are they covered?

Are you traveling to students homes or they come to you?

Is it guaranteed pay or is it per hours?

I notice it's a training center so your 'spring festival' holiday will likely be a week or less, some of us have 2 months off paid at that time.

FWIW tax on 20,000 salary is exactly 2,795.

We still don't know about your housing situation. Will you be in Shanghai?

However... One on One classes with High School students?! Who you can actually talk to? In my experience...most of the time, even the jaded ones who don't care or are "too cool for school" can be molded to want to speak with you if you put the time and effort in!

Total creative freedom to plan? The extra time is a small price to pay to do things you actually want and prefer.

Go for it.
