Does anybody know anything about this school? I'm scheduled for a skype interview on Thursday and I'm doing my 'due diligence' but can't find much about them online! Many thanks |

In addition to zero web reviews about that school, the school's website is a yuuuuge red flag. For starters, it's not professional looking and is incomplete; it has the lorem ipsum text in several spots, and the word "academic" is mispelled as "acatemic" numerous times. Secondly, the descriptions within the website are very vague, generic, and repetitive --- the same blocks of texts are repeated throughout the site. Also the obvious collection of stock photos of children and lack of any presence about or from the principal are suspect. For example, the following doesn't even indicate who the writer is --- the "I" in the message:
Quote: |
ABOUT THE SCHOOL
On behalf of the staffs and students I want to welcome you to Yanez International School. Yanez International School is an exciting place to be, challenging and enjoyable place for all, where the staff is dedicated to providing a stimulating environment, everyone feels valued and safe, ideas can flourish and students can realize their full potential.
Our curriculum is British curriculum. A love of learning, enquiry, independence, creativity, motivation and resilience are key factors in our learning culture. |
Frankly, if I'd seen that job ad and had gone directly to the school's website (which is what every job seeker should do), I wouldn't have bothered applying. By the way, according to Whois, the school's domain name was registered just this month by webstuffs88(at)post.com, which references someone in Nigeria.
Anyway... Please let us know how your interview goes. |

This smells like a possible scam. Do not send any money to anyone as that will be immediate proof that it is...

Hello, Appletini,
I found two different links on this "school." As NS pointed out, the language is clearly non-SE. Suspicions were further aroused when I clicked on "Curriculum" and "Next" or "Archives May 2015" and no narrative text appeared. There are no archives; how could there be when their website was only established in 2016?!
Did you notice the color slides of gleeful children are actually duplicates of the same few photos?
Don't you find the bolded information below from their "home page" suspicious?
Job Id: 2495495
Type: Full time
Salary: 40003000 USD - -243000 USD per month
Location: Fujairah, UAE
Working Hours: 25 hours a week
No. of Positions: 10
Accommodation: Accommodation will be provided
Visa information: A working visa is NOT offered by the employer. Please make sure you are prepared to make your own visa arrangements. --
A BIG RED FLAG HERE - be prepared to shell out dirhams or whatever currency the scammers desire via Western Union.
There was no Employment or Vacancy link. There is no mention of a need for ESL/EFL or licensed ENGLISH-speaking teachers in designated subject areas.
Education required is denoted as "PREFERRED." HA HA
At the top of the "home page," the goal is for children to "achieve the finality of education." (More laughter quelled)
Finally, there is no information to suggest this "institution" is affiliated with the MOE and I see no physical address.
Don't waste your time or $$$$. Heed the advice of NS and VS.

Dear appletini,
Curious to know what that Skype interview would have entailed?! We're glad that you have been spared wasted time and expense. As NS noted, and as you can see on Dave's employment links, there is a large yellow banner admonishing applicants to NOT PAY ANY FEES. Good luck in your future teaching pursuits!
Regards,

Hi peripatetic_soul,
I didn't just fall off the apple cart lol I had no intention of forking over any $$! Also, I cancelled the interview because--as per the above comments--I also had my doubts and didn't feel like getting up at 5AM for a bogus interview.
BTW, they're advertising here on Dave's: http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/index.cgi?read=40335 |

The interview only took about 5-8 minutes.
Most of the questions were about class management.
Any new information about this school? Maybe
I should just stay in Oman |

Note that the ad has been pulled. I doubt that there is anything more to learn other than it appears to be a scam.
