I have a dream of breaking into the landscape architecture industry here with my beautiful degree, although, there are some constraints:

[1] I don't have but 3 months of professional experience, and my
portfolio is unimpressive

[2] I have ADD with dysexecutive syndrome, overfocus, and
slow cognitive processing

I am looking to move to Guangzhou right now with a teaching job for the purpose of trying to break into this industry after a year. I would not move there otherwise, as there are many other beautiful places I could teach in in China.

I am wondering if I might actually be able to be more successful at this field in a chinese environment. Please tell me your thoughts regarding chinese work-style. Do they tend to be slower? Less productive? More forgiving? The same?

Thanks for you constructive answers and advice.

There's alot of company's out there that seem to be willing throw someone a bone, but you have to do an unpaid/low paid internship first. I would be willing to do a few months unpaid, but 6 months, to a year is ridiculous..I just cant sacrifice that amount of time on a "chance" I would get hired, and given a salary that would makeup for those months of poverty.

^chryanvii I would not mention your ADD to chinese people, they wouldnt understand, and other expats may hold it against you. If you network with other expats in architecture you might be able to score a job, that seems to be the way of getting out of teaching in china, network network network. Im going to begin attending some AMCHAM meetings & see how this works out.
