If you are sensitive about this issue - take KSA off your list, or go with an employer that offers multiple exit visa, with the passport in your hand ! |

It happens. Teachers are generally on probation during the first 90 days of their initial contract anyway. If the teacher wants out, for whatever reason, there's no guarantee the employer or sponsor will pay for the flight, especially if there's a business visit visa involved. However, if the employer/sponsor cans the teacher, an immediate flight out is reserved and paid for (and may entail a personal escort to the airport). |

What should be done if an employer holds our passport. Should I contact my embassy for help or other steps? |
1. Write a nice, polite email requesting your passport back because it is actually the property of the UK/US/AUS government.
If you don't get the result you want
2. Write a nice, polite email requesting your passport back and attach newspaper article.
If you don't get the result you want
3. Ask your embassy to intervene.
If you don't get the result you want
4. Report your passport as stolen or missing and get a replacement. |
I think #4 might not be the best idea.
Even with a new passport, one would then still require their sponsor to transfer their visa over (from old to new passport). |
