|
|
Hey all,
I'm considering the move to China in the near future but do have one concern.
I recently began on Wellbutrin to address some symptoms of depression, and was curious whether anyone has had difficulty finding/obtaining prescriptions for anti depressants in China.
Also, are they covered by the health insurance plan generally afforded to teachers in China?
Thank you for any input. |

The school said that you can teach in there even though you have been diagnosed with depression? I would think that it would be a disqualification.
By the way, know that getting pills works differently in China. You can't just walk into any pharmacy to get a prescription. You need to go into a hospital and get a doctor to approve it, and they then make it. It is a bit of an annoying task in China.
I will need to go through that process every month in order to get my Propecia. |

You can't walk into any pharmacy in the US or England to get a prescription either unless you get a doctor to approve it. The medication or cost may be different but the basic procedure for getting medicine here is the same as anywhere else. |

OP, I don't wish to sound harsh but, if you suffer from depression or anxiety, China could be a very tough place for you!
Especially if you are coming here solo, there are a lot of mental challenges and isolation issues to deal with on a daily basis.
Maybe you have researched Chinese culture in detail and maybe you can even speak a little Chinese, I don't know?
Outside of major cities it might be extremely difficult to get your medication I reckon. I would advise that you bring a supply from home with you.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck! |

In fact, getting anti-depressants is much easier her than in the US. Just bring your Chinese friend with you to translate - it's essentially walk in / walk out. You don't have to sit and explain yourself for an hour - and it's much cheaper too. They have the American brand Zoloft |
