Anyone have any idea how long security processing takes at BAE. I spent 10 years in Poland so gave them my Polish security check + official translation and UK check. 5 weeks so far.

Get the impression BAE has lots of money Saudi military contract money sloshing around but the impetus to be efficient is not present.

Siobhan22, I'm curious if you got over there eventually? BAE and Language Solutions seriously messed me around for a period of seven months this year to no avail.

So, 5 weeks in the compound while I wait for a base pass. This is my second trip to Saudi for BAE. I have a three month contract, so the 5 week wait has meant a fully paid holiday by the lovely compound lagoon pool.

I'm happy to not go to work as, ironically, the inability to get teachers on to the airbase means that on site teachers teach 6 lessons a day. Teachers are being asked, too, to do a double shift with the promise of a day off in lieu at some time in the future. No one keeps records of over time worked, so your word is as good as the piece of paper it's not recorded on. A double shift will have you leave the compound at 5.15 am and returning at 8.15 pm. Your first session class will finish at 12.30 and your first second session class will begin at 1. As it's the week before a holiday, no books are issued to the new cadets, so make it up as you go along.

As I slide into week 6 of the compound life, I look forward to week 7.

I'm curious to know if you have to share a villa. I know they have two ensuite bedrooms, but the living area is pretty small.

Yep. You have to share. When in the kitchenette, if you both breathe in at the same time, you can both fit. If you're not a smoker, start smoking so you get moved out to a 'smoking' villa. You may, or may not, get it to yourself. The weather is nice now, so you can spend your days by the pool, dreaming of tomorrow.

I've been in all week and never taught more than 5 periods. Between 1 and 7:30 pm.

Sunday was a one off, where in some teachers were given the opportunity to work the Am and Pm shift for a day in lieu. This was due to a planning error/ first day of new schedule cock up.

The teachers that did a double shift that day have a good relationship with management. Also the 'over time' was a one off, So there is no need for a written record.

Today I will teach 2 classes, so that works out at £100 an hour.

Lena needs to check who he gets his work gossip from. 😜

All recruitment 'frozen' at BAE - certainly for Langsols?

3-month visa now 6 months.

Gap periods off for 3 months difficult to get?

BAE in KSA are employing females ? if so then things really are changing !

As another poster here,I was also seriously messed around by BAE / Langsols for about 8 months to no avail. I got all excuses under the sun rather than the truth.

Any news or updates on how things are going and the recruitment process?

US$4000 for teaching military students ? I would want a LOT more than that.

A very good mate of mine is there dh and 3 old colleagues of mine did it the Langsols way.

This is the summary: Long working hours (early starts), 6 lessons a day, students OK, military set up, great compound, do 2 years and out having saved a lot. Can get out 3 or 4 times a year.

Now that oil jobs like mine are coming to end (except for SAramco), it's a well-paid gig.

I agree with most of the above summary, save for the bit about students at BAE Dhahran.

More akin to special needs teaching in my experience. But if you are ok with that, then go ahead.

Compound certainly first class, but v long days.
