I think some people on this thread are out of the loop. I'm a higher end earner here as I'm in oil and gas training and have 2 decades of experience in oil and gas. I don't save more than 10k a month. If I were single, I would live on the camp for free and do AD at the weekends and save close to 30k a month. If you do this place, do it single as you can slum it then. I've just paid close to 85k up front for a studio and my job security is zilch in the current climate. My friends at ADEC are on something like 20k with a free flat.
Accommodation is expensive and so are school fees. |

Job security in the Middle East? What's that? One should always have an exit plan over here. |

TBH the best job I ever had was in Libya. Shame the country's gone *beep*. Rotations are the best gigs around.
I'm looking forward to going 'home' when I do get canned. |

The key word is "when", no longer "if". It used to be that folks could float along year to year with a cushy job and three year contracts and take vacations to exotic places with the gravy left over from their salary.
We've said it many times on this forum, in one form or another: rethink, retool or relocate.
Anyway, what was the original question? What is happening over at PI? On their webpage, there is a huge English Department of over 30 people. We know that Masdar, KU and PI are merging. Is there any other news concerning that from PI? |

To each their own. While I do not "do" ESL (but CELTA-trained) I certainly see many folks returning "home" because of family, and familiar turf, and ....
OTOH, at my age, life is still an incredible adventure 9with a fulfilling and supportive work environment - see previous paragraph anout the folks bailing "out") and, God-willing, I will continue working and eventually live (in my 70s??) in a warm country where I can pay for (accessible) medical care and have peace-and-quiet in a healthy environment. ATM North America looks BAD... just my opinion of course
My friends "back home" tell me to keep working as long as possible - even if I do not need the $$ - because it gives another "purpose" to life and because it takes up all the time we have when the kids are "gone". |

The merger is done. It's happened. Now we're all waiting to see what it means. |
