The trick with two iqamas will not work. Reconcile yourself to the reality that you will have to go on your husband's iqama as a dependant. |
I'm not trying to pull any tricks. What I'm asking is if we do this all on the up-and-up, informing my employer that my spouse is employed in another city and receiving his housing allowance in another city, whether there is any chance I could still be eligible for a housing allowance as well. I imagine it isn't likely, but I want to look at the broadest possible scope of our possibilities.
I enjoyed living in Saudi and wouldn't mind returning if the opportunity presents itself. The issue for me is that I'm not single and traveling alone. My husband and I have a big family to support, so we have to consider various options for doing that efficiently. We're pretty flexible people, but I realize government regulations may not be equally flexible. |

All you can do is give it a try and see what happens. With things like this that are outside the "norm" in the country, their response is unpredictable. No one here on the net can answer it. There is really no strong downside for them in this situation (other than issues with perhaps someone having to stay home with a sick child), but they don't look at things like this the same as someone coming from the US. You would have to be upfront about it. I would suggest that your husband have a strong offer first, and then you look about... and see if you need to bring this idea up with your new employer. You may find a job in the same city and the question becomes moot.

Yeah, I think you're right. We'll likely have to just apply for jobs, and then see what our employers are willing to do. I was hoping someone else might have experience with this, good or bad, and could tell me whether their employer allowed it or denied the request. As you say, though, we may be able to find jobs in the same area and then this concern was pointless. |

This will be a tough sell. Many employers (particularly for-profit contracting companies) tend to hire female teachers from abroad using single "unmarried" visas and house them in apartment blocks rather than provide an allowance. Read job ads carefully. |
