In most cases, it's a scam. An ALT is not supposed to lead the lessons anyway, it's the Japanese English teacher.
The ALT should be consulting the Japanese English teacher directly for guidance - not the dispatch company. Dispatch companies are meddlesome and just complicate the situation. |
This goes against most of what I've heard happens with ALTs. |

Well he did say should. Situations vary widely school to school and JET to JET. I work with 5 JET and have to adapt to 5 different sets of teaching style and expectations (and this is by far the best situation I've had...there have been years where I've been working with 12 or more across multiple locations). |

ESID, ESID, ESID. Ah, the good ol' JET mantra emerges once again. |

Back when I was an ALT, I went to the local city hall to see the contract of the dispatch company I worked for. I was being payed about 3.3 million yen a year, and the city was paying somewhere north of 5 million a year per ALT (they hired 6 that year). Gives you an idea of the profit margin at that time... |

That's huge profit for the dispatch companies.
Sounds like government corruption to me.
Hand over these big ALT contracts to your friends who run dispatch companies (which don't do anything useful except discipline the odd misbehaving foreigner). |
