.First of all m a caveat, my knowledge is thru a number of friends who bitch about that place - a lot. Nothing personal but I don't believe this information to be accurate. Simply because I know at least 15 people who worked there; all the full timers get a contract in the 15-20K bracket. Part timere get 220 per 45 minutes. (Which are both low for the city / workload) But It is a horrible place to work - highest turnover I have ever seen, no-one stays more that a few months. A new Canadian head took control and it has become a gulag. 6 months ago I knew a lot of people working there, today they are all gone. Reams of paperwork, interfering parents (one marched into a classroom and hit a teacher) , last minute changes in schedule, no loyalty - avoid even at 20K.
Send an email - say ''Dear Mr Butcher, why offer me 5000 when every other full timer gets at least 15000?"

Hi all, I'd be grateful if anyone could give me any advice on this situation.
I just received a job offer from a place in Shanghai, called North American Education (NAE), and they want me to start working at the end of January. They initially offered me 5000rmb monthly pay for 25 teaching hours, 15 office hours, and no apartment or apartment allowance, no airfare reimbursement. I replied and told them that I can't start work without a Z visa and that it would probably be hard to live on 5000rmb per month.
In their next reply they said that I could first enter with and L visa then apply for a work visa in China. They also mentioned that because I have a TESOL cert and a Bachelor degree it wouldn't be hard to get a FEC. Additionally they mentioned that they're willing to increase the salary.
So I was wondering if it would be a good idea to just bite the bullet and go with and L visa. Also, I wanted to know what people consider a decent salary, keeping in mind there's no free apartment.
Thanks in advance! |

Thanks for the advice everyone!
I recently got an offer from EF which I'm thinking of accepting. I have heard some horror stories about EF but I thought I'd take my chances seeing as at the very least, everything is done legally.
Once again, thanks! |

| A year there is doable, then see what options become available. |
