Hi all

I would like to avoid being sent by my company to multiple school locations which are miles apart. Any tips on how I can get assigned to just 1 school or if multiple schools at least schools that are not too many miles apart. I am at the job interview stage now on Skype, not had any offers yet.

The recruiter must state on the contract that I will be sent to multiple schools? Can they not just say nothing and do that after the fact? Not much I could do about it if they elected to do that no?

Your only protection (albeit scant) from being unwillingly farmed out is to have a clause in your contract stipulating that you will not be required to work at multiple locations or be required to travel longer than five minutes to class. Stipulating a single location is not enough. You may live at one campus but teach at another campus owned by the same school but located across town. Been there. Done that.

While you're at it, you might ask for a clause that states the times and dates of class cancellations (holidays, sports days, etc.).

I think all of the above advice is good. Most employers do not farm you around. In general, the really bad ones do. Anyone with a half a brain and a little research should be able to subconsciously red flag.

I would get it in the contract. Do research and walk away from any employer where you find that they do it, despite their assurances that they will not with you. Also avoid those who even insinuate it. "Well, on very rare occasion you may be requested to travel at your expense by rickshaw to cover a class on the other side of the province. You would receive an extra free Mandarin class for the inconvenience".

I would also be wary of big chains in big cities. You may get assigned to one center and then invest some major RMB into an apartment upfront, only to be moved to a center far away after a few months.
