Regarding the guy in the article, it was a simple case of economics. Huawei undercut the German company. My friend was offered about 36k a month to work for Huawei, which was 10k less than it was worth him staying. They said that if they gave him 45k it was more than their directors were on. The compound is now being taken over Chinese.
That's the way it goes. |
Has he found similar pay and conditions in Germany?
Sometimes you need to look beyond hard cash. He was well established so why refuse 36k.
... He may have regrets later on but I wish him all the best. |

He didn't actually lose his job, it was the company that lost the contract. So he is working for the same company back in Germany. Think he only had a few days off and then he had to go to work. The employee law is very good in Germany, and even if they wanted to get rid of him they can't because he's been with the same company for too long. Unless they paid out a massive lump sum, or he did some kind of gross misconduct, he's got the job.
So on that front he's fine.
As for the finances, I guess he made a decision on income and outgoings, and what he could save living the way he wanted to.
But I think if you offered most people on this forum 36k a month, they could survive, even with two kids...... |

I watched a doco where they guaranteed start and finish times, and woe betide any employer who transgresses the working laws. I agree, 36k is good enough for wife and kids! |

it is a country where women ( local) are competing with Asians as sales persons /check out persons at supermarkets, but where in other countries, people grab what they want, then proceed to use self check out by themselves and pay by ATM cards.
too much modernisation! |

Utterly dysfunctional! You stay there on the job according to age, how superficial you're outlook is, and how well you fit into their society. Chance plays a key role also; Do they need you at the moment? If not lots of luck. |

"The Good Times Are Over" Indeed - but for some posters who shall remain un-named - KSA was never good. Some have terribly negative stereotypes of the place ! |

I had bad times there - and good times. It gave me a well-paid job when I could not find one at home. It exposed me to an interesting part of the world and allowed me to travel a lot. It gave me a sneaking admiration for the Ottomans. That caused me problems when I later settled in the Balkans, where memories of the Ottomans are not positive ! "Turkohratia" and all that jazz !

Interesting experiences you have had indeed sir!
I knew a bloke from the balkans teaching in Oh-man, who had previously been in the kingdom. He had no love for the people of the Ottomans! |
