I think she was yanking your chain. Either or, countries around the world have a retirement age for ESL teachers. In South Korea, it is mandatory retirement for people aged 65. In Saudi, I think it is 60.
Apply to jobs and see what happens. I wouldn't put much stock in what a student may have said in jest in class. |

Anyway, in some Middle Eastern countries the LOCALS might retire at 40, but I doubt that many of us are locals on these forums. We just have to work with the HR departments who have to work with their country's visa requirements. |

Perhaps though it has since changed. |
I too suspect that she was not being either honest or accurate.
And BTW, in a post you made in the past, you stated your age at that time. If that was accurate, I can tell you that you have absolutely no chance of getting a work visa in any of the Gulf countries.
Your only option would be to just head to a place like Egypt or Morocco and pick up a few courses at one of the language schools. You wouldn't be eligible for a legal work visa though... it would be part-time for hourly pay with no benefits, of course.

That's why I suggested the Peace Corps; they would accept someone 65/70+. |
