I think the problem people have with tattoos is not necessarily that they look bad but that having one in a prominent position is kind of proof that that particular person didn't have the mental capacity to accept that their future self might look at things in s different way. It either displays pig-headed-ness or a general lack of intelligence.

That's rather judgmental. Razz

True but we were talking about the hiring of people for jobs context where judging people is kind of the whole point. I'm sure people with that opinion wouldn't mind having the guy as a neighbour or going for a drink with him.

Which is why job seekers need to be mindful about covering their body ink, removing unusual visible piercings, and/or wearing a hairstyle that doesn't turn off prospective employers. However, some applicants are reluctant to make some changes to their appearance.

I completely agree. I think we should look professional when we work and I think its important to do.

There has been a shift in western societies ie in the Anglosphere in recent years. Not so long ago only military men, sailors and criminals had tatoos. Now they seem to be universal among the under-40s.

This poster is totally free of them !

When I was growing up all my favourite rock stars and wrestlers had tattoos and I remember saying to myself at like ten years old that when I grow up i'll have exactly the same.

I think nowadays its not seen half as rebellious to get tattoos - which I suppose is a good thing as its becoming normalised and the taboo is removed.

Its crazy how much culture plays into this though - like how in japan it is still a taboo to be tattooed whereas in other Asian countries, say, Thailand, it is completely normal.

Really? I don't know any respectable Thais with tattoos. I've known a few unrespectable Thais with tattoos, but that's another story. Rightly or wrongly, having a bunch of tattoos will get you plenty of prejudice in much of Asia.
