Hi, I wonder which company is the current contractor at PNU preparatory year program. I thought it is ICEAT but their website doesn't mention that: http://iceat.net/#
Any update is appreciated. |

Thank you "I-forgot". Do you have any idea about what textbook they use for English? |

When I was there, the books changed on a fairly regular basis. Always 'Special Edition' books made for the Middle Eastern market so they could be 'culturally sensitive'.
Think there was a preference for Cambridge books in the PYP. |

Skip the contractors and apply for direct hire. Most people who go with a contractor regret it. Direct hires get paid more reliably and get gorgeous housing provided.
I interviewed with them at TESOL Arabia this year, and they told me they were using textbooks specifically designed for PNU by Cambridge University Press. I was asked to write lesson plans for them using an excerpt from the Unlock Reading and Writing textbook and the English Unlimited textbook, so I assume they are using or have used these. |

Amina is right about the housing - the on campus apartments are lovely. Great if you have a family with you. Singles have to share which can be an issue for some people and you will spend more on taxis to get into town because PNU is quite far out.
PNU has introduced a fee for using the on campus gym and swimming pool. I don't think it is high but it did come as shock to people who were told it would be free. Also, there were plans for teachers to start paying their own utility bills which caused a lot of anger among faculty members (probably the ones who left the ACs running all summer while they were on holiday in other countries).
The downside to PNU direct hire is summer pay - in that they don't. Every single summer there is an issue with direct hires being paid. It is not unusual to go from May to November without a pay cheque.
As a government institution, you are therefore a government employee. Try taking the givernment to Labor Court! They were able to enforce salary cuts of up to 40% on teachers who were in the middle of their contracts. To repeat - in the middle of their contracts. Not at the end, not a renewal. In the middle.
They no longer give multiple exit visas to teachers which was a big draw for people five years ago (along with the apartments). I think Al Hussan is the only contractor to issue staff with multiple at the moment but am open to correction.
Caveat Emptor. |
