A tutoring agency, offering one-on-one classes where you travel to the client's house. They try to lowball you at every chance they get. Offering up 200 RMB an hour in expensive tier 1 cities, and no travel cost reimbursement.

Their clients are usually overly demanding and not worth dealing with. If you lose one or two students for whatever reason, often they will not contact you again unless they have no teachers available and are extremely desperate.

Apply at your own risk.

Depends. They will try to force you to accept the 200 RMB rate, even if you have several years experience. The work isn't so hard generally, but you'll have to travel to the client's house, which may or may not be inconvenient for you.

They try to "force you" to accept 200 an hour? how do they do this? Surprised

And of course they "lowball" on the wages. It's a smart negotiating tactic on the part of the company. If the prospective teacher manages to negotiate a better deal than the one offered, then good for the teacher. It cuts both ways. In any event if the offer isn't good then just say "no thanks" and move on.

Of course they're gonna take their cut so 200/hr is not bad actually. If they could give you a block of hours and the travel time was manageable that is. A $30/hr job back home is pretty decent Wink
5 hours per day, 6 days per week, and you could bank 24k/month Smile

+1. Agencies providing tutorial matching services have their place especially if you are just starting out or have moved to a new location. They can be quite useful in building up your initial student base. There are a lot of these in HK and they vary in quality. So I'd advise you to do your research first and see what other teachers have commented about the service.

Naturally later on once you have established your reputation and networked a bit, it makes more sense to find your own students directly. No sense in reducing your hourly rate with commission payments if you don't have to.
