Currently I am in the US waiting on the school that hired me in Shanghai to send my work permit so that I can apply for the Z-Visa. Of course Shanghai has introduced the new system and underwent a lot of changes. I am supposed to be in Shanghai July 12th, but yet to receive the work permit. Its 16 days until July 12th. Does it usually take this long? Whats happening, i'm panicking? I did speak with my recruiter and he said that the foreign expert bureau is just moving slow and hopefully the work permit is ready by the end of the month. |

Hello, Bookerchristin12,
You might do better to post this in the China subforum. It is quite active, and some members do not poke their heads up over here in General Discussion with any regularity. Someone there may be able to address your anxiety with more knowledge of the current situation.
Welcome to the cafe! |

Hi there. They will not send you a work permit. They need to send you a 'letter of invitation' so that you can apply for your Z-Visa. When you get to Shanghai you will need to convert your Z-Visa into a RP (residence permit) within 30 days - this is your work permit.
There are changes with a new foreigner classification system being introduced. With a card now replacing the little black book (FEC - foreign expert certificate).
I recently had my RP renewed but under the old system. It all seems a bit up in the air atm. But I've heard from now on all will be processed under the new system.
When is your start date? Be wary, your recruiter might yet ask you to come to SH on a tourist visit. Then fly to HK to get your Z-Visa. Many teachers I know here have done this and the employer has refunded all expenses, but it's an unnecessary risk imo. |

My date is July 12th. I haven't received anything at all to get a Z-Visa. He keeps telling me he is waiting as well. The giver mint is moving slower with the new system. |

So you're supposed to be starting work on July 12th. If so, I can't see that happening for you. They will lie you (the whole saving face thing) so be careful. |

I don't see it happening either, but 2 other people I have spoken with said that invitation letters for the z-visa have been sent out at the very last minute so just be patient. |
