Interesting range of salaries offered by the recruiter 'Cover People' for
'contractor' in Khamis Mushayt.
NATIVE ENGLISH:
Female BA + CELTA = 8750 SAR
Male BA + CELTA = 9250 SAR
Female MA + CELTA = 12500 SAR
Male MA + CELTA = 13000 SAR
Some NON-NATIVE ENGLISH:
Female MA + CELTA = 5500 SAR
Male MA + CELTA = 6000 SAR
Female PHD + CELTA = 8500 SAR
Male PHD + CELTA = 9000 SAR
Quite a glaring discrepancy between BA and MA holders. I'm sure some with BA and CELTA and decent experience would be better in the actual classroom.
Interesting disparity between males and females in the same category.
As it's advertised by a UK recruiter, is there a loophole that because they are hiring for a Saudi contractor they can advertise different salaries for the same duties/qualifications? |

You're referring to the ad for teachers with a "SELTA"? It was poorly written, and there's no info about the position nor mention of experience and benefits. But that's unlikely to deter some job seekers from applying.
I'm not surprised that female teachers get paid less than their male counterparts; some employers don't view women as sole wage earners. However, it could be that the female teachers have less troublesome students, or that they receive a 500 SAR transportation allowance, better housing... Who knows.
BTW, you assert that "some with BA and CELTA and decent experience would be better in the actual classroom." That would include MA holders since they also have a BA. |

I think it is clear that I am referring to those only with a BA and experience having as good a chance to impress than those who have tacked on an MA TESOL - certainly in a Saudi setting. I have certainly met MA's who can spout a lot of pedagogy but their practical teaching and effectiveness leave a lot to be desired. |

And we all know of BA holders with a TEFL cert and loads of experience who exhibit lackluster teaching skills as well. But that's why the better employers tend to require formal classroom observations. |

Not exactly a 'disparity' but more evidence of the downward pressure on salaries:
This week from a company with a slightly strange name.
Note the word 'including'.
Salary:
Total Monthly Salary Package Range :SAR 10000 - SAR 13500 (including Housing and Transportation allowance)
Company/Organisation: Middle East jobs
Address:
West Riding Business Centre
Bradford
BD14HR
United Kingdom
Telephone: Deleted
Fax: Deleted
Contact Person: Deleted
The above posted makes Arddel Consulting's 12000SAR plus accommodation for 2-3 years' experience relatively generous. |

This is nothing new. Salaries have been declining over the past few years, even before the region's oil slump. |

Indeed.
In this case, if you've got a BA and little experience and they offer you 11000 incl., it's a pretty rum deal if you have to fork out for anything approaching a decent flat plus taxi fares. |

Not good at all. You have to shell out 3500 for a hotel apartment. |

A foreigner with a labour contract should get either a housing allowance or housing provided by the employer. That does not apply if you are on a business visa, which gives you no legal protection as an employee. |

Non-native teachers win.. their salaries in their countries range from 100 to 200 USD ( under 1000 Saudi Riyals) |

Labor contracts must be signed then comes the visa, it could be visit, business or employment. |
