I will be teaching at a *real* international school in the fall (the second in ten years) with no certification, just a BA an MA and an MFA and fifteen years experience in the class room. |
I was obviously talking not talking about higher education otherwise I'd have specified university, most of the high paid university positions require PhDs that I've seen. There is really little point in teaching if you plan to get better qualifications. It's always better to get qualified first unless you lack money or want to try out the job first.
Also another thing to note is that subjects tend to pay significantly more and have many more available positions on the international school and university scene. To to the tune of 10-15,000 more a month if you're teaching Physics over English.
I know I'll get slaughtered for saying this but it's absolutely the case in China. |

Can you explain how someone fresh out of university with $40,000 or so debt is immediately suppose to gain qualifications? Even a CELTA with flight and living costs will set you back $3,000.
A Masters will probably cost you $15000 for the fee plus maybe $10,000 living costs. So you've got to immediately find $25,000. |

| Further on, if one is prepared to work hard and has the 'right look', then you could work at a primary school or middle school in a large city, make 10-12,000 with housing and work privates for another 5 or 6000, and bank $2000 a month, which would mean in a year you'd have saved enough for your masters. |

Screw those crooks. I just got into a huge argument with my boss over their BS and deductions and 9/10 times they'll fold like a paper bag as long as you bring evidence. What would I do if I was you? Apply at other places, there are always better jobs out there. And btw, you can pretty much behave like a maniac 24/7 and say "no" to anything they want you to do that isn't exactly teaching and they cannot do a whole lot. Us foreign teachers are treated like contract workers so anything they need done extra is OT (or you can refuse that too because they can't force you to do anything unless your contract hours are not met).
Don't sign though, throw a rock in a random direction and go and find a new job, it really is easy pretty much anywhere. |
