Does your diploma and transcripts say "online" or "distance" anywhere? If not, submit them and say nothing about it.

The mode of instruction gets checked with the university registrar during the degree authentication process.

I know for a fact that this does not always occur.

That's likely for those getting a business/work visit visa. But a proper employment visa requires the degree to be authenticated.

if one completes the paperwork in the US or UK (and likely the rest), to get a proper employment visa/iqama, the Saudi Embassy requires that all degrees be authenticated. (and part of that process is determining if any of the coursework was done online or distance)

As numerous others have said, degrees with any online components are not accepted by the Saudi Cultural Mission/Embassy. I (successfully) submitted my PGCE for attestation.

It's just ironic as the place I'm going hired me on the strength of my (distance) MA.

The only qualifying degree can't have online coursework per the Ministry of Education for employment visa purposes. (BTW, the Saudi Cultural Mission/Bureau is an administrative arm of the Education Ministry.) However, it's not unusual for some employers to value a related but online degree if the job candidate also holds a Delta, PGCE, teaching license, grad cert in TESOL, etc., although it may not equate to much of a salary boost, if at all. But it depends on the requirements for the position and the employer.

I know for a fact that this does not always occur.

Just because you know someone who heard about someone or someone told you in a pub somewhere doesn't mean that misleading information should be passed on to current or future applicants.

The reality is that anyone with any online credentials should know that there is a 99.973% chance that that credential will not be recognized or used to set their salary.

In other words, if you have a BA, CELTA, and an online MA. Only the BA and CELTA will be recognized for credentials (and salary level)... even though the MA might give you a leg up with the employer making the offer.
