In my initial post, I stated:

There's another piece to this. Job seekers who have hit KSA's retirement age (60) are generally left with one option: working via a biz/work visit visa with the crappiest of contracting companies). When is enough really enough?

Actually we are seeing the dying embers of ELT by expats here in Saudi. We won't be totally gone but significantly reduced.

Increasingly Saudis are learning that they do not need huge numbers of over-privileged Westerners teaching their Youth.

I think the same thing is happening in the far east also, salaries remaining low/static and visa rules being racheted even tighter.

Within one generation China will produce its own teachers of English. There will be no need - real or perceived - for TEFLers from the Anglosphere.

If my prediction is wrong you can take it up with me on the other side of the Pearly Gates. I will have left this Vale of Tears by then !

I taught in Africa.

When I left economies went downhill.

I taught in Bulgaria

When I left the economy crashed.

I taught in Saudi Arabia

when I left the price of oil dived
