I'm doubt how widespread that sort of thing is among adjunct academics . I DO wonder about the people who are awarded tenure and those who have their full-time contracts renewed year after year.

The scams aren't limited to China.

I had only cut&pasted the lede. The Guardian is as dependent on clicks as any source, but I thought the article lent support to your "Really" assertion.

The article cites two reports and, unsurprisingly, sociologists are leading an effort to take measure of their own ranks.
And this report is more quantitative in terms of the trends in budgets and salaries across the range.
