However it is pointless trying to get privates here. Literally noone speaks any english nor wants to or needs to. Only in the city could I get some decent privates.

In some areas taking on private students just isn't viable, especially in the countryside. You'll have to consider carefully the travelling time involved with taking on private students in the city. There's no point taking on a RMB 400 / hr student in the city if it takes you an hour to get there and an hour to get back. That works out to around RMB 133 / hr before travelling expenses which would certainly be a waste of time for many people. Now, if you could arrange 2 or 3 students back-to-back in the city and in the same location, that might be worthwhile. Difficult to do in practise however.

WHy do I want to work on my salary? Cos it's not really such a high salary to be honest. 35000 would be a good salary or 40 000 even better. 26.5 is just 10k more than a regular esl job and I work 40 hours for this although I only have to teach about 20. Lots of admin though keeping records of progress and stuff. You can only get 40k -50k in SHanghai or Beijing I think for IS in china. Salaries are so varied.

RMB 40-50K is in the very top 1% of ESL work in China. You'd be very unlikely to secure such a position without solid qualifications and a lot of relevant experience. Do you have strict savings targets to hit? I'd imagine that even with your current salary you should be able to save at least RMB 20K / month.

sorry i am not an esl teacher although I do teach 2nd language english which is similar and my own subject at an IS. There are absolutely no esl jobs in china paying 40-50k. At least I highly doubt it. What I meant was you can get 40k net at IS in shanghai but the prices in shanghai are very high so its the same as earning 30k in the countryside.

yes I know! I don't just teach ESL English though. I still am highly sceptical that ESL teachers in China can find enough privates. Students are very hard to find unlike in neighbouring countries.

Depends on many factors such as your location, reputation, pricing level etc etc. Some posters on here have reported being inundated with private students and turning students away. Others struggle to find even one.

Thanks for sharing, enterthedragon. You have concluded that one cannot get private students, so you've answered your own question.

Time to move on. Bye.
