Hello,
Hope somebody can answer my question.
Is it possible to apply for jobs if I'm on a tourist visa? I'm a Canadian female teaching in Korea now, have a chance to stay 1 month free in Kyoto and would like to know if I can look for jobs. Is one month enough? (have a masters in TESL and 3 years experience in Korea, also worked for 3 months with Westgate in Tokyo)
Thank you!

You can look for a job on a tourist visa but

1. dont tell immigration when you arrive in the country you are looking for a job. They will detain you and put you on the first plane back home

2. let employers know that you qualify for a work visa, will be seeking sponsorship, which will mean a trip out of the country. Expect to spend a few days travelling to Korea to change your visa over.

Personally I think with a Masters degree you will be overqualified for many conversation school jobs. If I were you I would also look into part time university jobs. Harder to get but they are out there. You just need to know the right people and have whatever else they are looking for. Nov-December is the best time of year for interviews for uni jobs.

PaulH (and anyone who can help),

I have a friend now (staying with me now) in the position of looking work (with a few full time prospects around the corner) on a tourist visa and will have to do the country hop...

What is the exact procedure for this?
