That was predictable.
A 3 year reprieve for many teachers to job search.

It's three year hiatus for high schools to teach to the EMSAT so that students can achieve 1100 on that exam. They fell short on getting most students up to a band 5 IELTS, so they just switched the goal post.
Research into the validity of the correlation between a 5 and a 1100 would be helpful. |

How have administrators reacted to this new situation? Have teachers been informed of their status for next year? |

There are many administrations and many universities. The visa process is long and complex. Any Prep teacher who did not get renewed in June, has probably moved on to another position, in another country.
The staff of the newly merged Khalifa/PI/Madar institution are still waiting on word as to what will happen with their contracts. The federal government has a an overload of English lecturers in that institution on paper. Watch this space. |

UAE 'wasting millions' on unnecessary English language foundation years, FNC hears
The National | April 26, 2018
The UAE is spending millions of dirhams on English lessons for 18-year-olds who have left school without sufficient skills in English, the Federal National Council heard yesterday. Costly foundation years are an interim between school and university for those who lack enough English to start university.
The government is keen to phase the year out by improving English lessons in schools, but the deadline has been repeatedly pushed back.
Pupils who are not up to scratch, but in the past have been allowed to pass exams, will no longer be given such an easy ride. Minister for Public Education Jameela Al Muhairi said schools must do better in English education. “The country is spending millions on that,” Ms Al Muhairi said. She said that pupils needed to be given the grades they had earned. “We used to give them 80 and 90 when they did not deserve it.”

My mate at HCT got told this recently. 3 more years! Now he's just waiting to see the new deal. For those with kids here, if they cut tuition fees, the job ain't worth it. |

The old days at HCT are just about a thing of the past as T.E.Lawrence's conquest of Aqaba. I was lucky to be at Dubai Women's from '97 to 2002, and then on the the Petroleum Institute; VS of course was at HCT from the beginning, in Abu Dhabi, I think, right? We used to have good old arguments about the quality of life in the two cities; I always advocated Dubai life, but no more. They've made it a mess. |

A lame attempt at cleverly spelling out the HCT initials, sorry to say. I suppose at one time, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, HCT could have stood for Highly Creative Teachers. Nowadays you avoid HCT as Horrible Conduct Territory. |
