Quite a few people have lost their jobs at the college I teach at. We were told about a year ago that qualifications were being checked. I'm not sure who has been investigating. It could be college HR, MoM, MoHE or whoever, but irregularities were found and a number of lecturers had their contracts terminated last month. A couple were from the ELC and the rest from the academic departments. I think it's a good move forward to improve the quality of teaching. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this. Is my college the only one where this has happened? |

This is a good development as it weeds out all the bums. |

From my in situ observation these notorious qualification reviews by MoHE/MoM had very little to do with what they claimed they were doing.
In most cases I witnessed it was used as a weapon, to gun down those not popular with Deans or HoDs. |

There is some looking around at diploma mill certification but I'm not sure if anyone is looking at checking authenticity. I suspect Balqis is accurate. |

Here in Qatar the same thing happened as well last month. Some colleagues without the correct qualifications were either let go or they were demoted. Some 9 staff I heard "resigned" from their post in the ELC department. Personally, I thought it was because they had run their course, and were looking for new adventures. |
