Hi everyone,

My situation is as follows: I have a degree but have yet to do any TEFL qualification. My partner has no degree and no qualification. I have heard that people can work doing private lessons or work in schools in Turkey without a degree. She is willing to do the TEFL qualification, possibly CELTA, to ensure she has experience and is dedicated and hard working. I am also prepared to do just about anything.

What hope do you hold out for us succeding?

O.K lets get this right, the only thing you have going for you is that you speak English Exclamation . Well thats ok for some small centers, but you should hold a degree in somthing. If you don't have the right paper work, you won't get much more than 700 to 1000 $ per month in this city. Many years ago you would have got alot more, but don't forget that the local expat community has grown alot. Kent English and Englist Time will hire just about anybody. Drop them a line befor you get out here.

Technically you need a degree in either English or Education plus TEFL qualifications to legally teach here. In practice you will find work regardless, but the standard of establishment will probably reflect your qualifications or lack of.

In practice, TEFL is the most useful as the course will teach you the basics of what you need in the classroom. That combined with a good brain and a willingness to learn will start you off. CELTA is an excellent course.

Good luck.
