I'm just doing some last minuet packing for teaching english, and I read somewhere about bringing a pair of new "indoor" shoes to teach in. Can I just wear any nice-looking shoes, or do they have to have never been worn outside? Any shoe suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks! |

Nobody is ever going to do a forensic evaluation of your shoes to determine whether they have been worn outside. Just bring whatever you like and designate them as indoor only. |

I teach at an elementary school, and people's indoor shoes tend to be comfortable and clean, but not necessarily brand spnking new. Sneakers, sandals, and in some cases actual slippers are what the other teachers wear. If you don't bring your own indoor shoes, some will be provided - yucky plastic slippers that won't fit properly and have been worn by god only knows how many PTA visitors in the past and have never been cleaned. |

Celeste,
Yep, that 's the gross part about the school slippers.
I'd say bring slippers of your own. Or sandals so your feet can breathe. Remember, you're going to be wearing those school shoes every day all year. Shoes can get fragrant. Any junior high kid can tell you that... |

If you bring sandals, you should also bring (or buy here if your feet aren't bigger than about a US (mens)9 or so- bigger than that and it becomes hard to find shoes) something with a closed toe (actually shoes are good, esp. if your school doesn't use toilet shoes, or bring the athletic clogs).
There isn't central heating, and so if you will probably be able to see your breath inside during the winter, but in the classrooms, it's warmer (but smells of gasoline). Sandals are really cold then. (I guess you could just bring some wool socks, too) |
