jp......2001 I see you have asked about India and phone teaching with no replies..Maybe no-one is getting past the 10 page marathons above. Shocked

Last week I saw an ad for Bangalore at..yes..a call center. Sounded interesting but was vague about the hours which might be VERY long..If you didn't see it PM me and I can forward it. India does not need tons of EFL teachers but from what I hear the market is bigger than people think.

As for phone teaching I did this for a few months in Korea..A bit absurd really with 5 minute "lessons" but I had some fun with it. It will generally be early morning or late night..The pay is about half the hourly rate of a classroom...Strangely I have heard this is catching on and some teachers even make a living doing it full time. It is done from home --cell costs would defeat the purpose--and occasionally from an office...

I don't think there is a big demand for foreign teachers in India. There are enough local, well qualified teachers, who will work for less money.

Call centers for many businesses are moving to India and other places to reduce costs. The original poster may have been inquiring about jobs training call center employees. I'm interested too. Let us know what you find. There is a fair amount of resentment in the US towards these out of country call centers for airlines, appliances, etc. Some of the employees could use a little touch up in their ESL abilities, that's for sure. We may be urgently needed.
