I've never voted by absentee ballot before (I'm in China). Can anyone give me some advice on the process and also some problems that may crop up that would potentially invalidate the vote? I want my vote to be counted!
Absentee ballots, you may recall, played a pivotal role in the last presidential election.
BTW, for your information:

I'm concerned as well--I re-registered to vote as soon as I got settled in Japan, and for past elections, absentee ballots were mailed to me automatically. I've heard conflicting reports about whether or not we have to request them this time--I've heard that Sept. 15th is the deadline.
I've also emailed my political party in California, and they haven't responded. Not an encouraging sign...

I, too, am concerned about my vote counting. What I read said that you need to send your request for the ballot no later than September 10. I sent mine last week. I just hope they count all these overseas votes!

Wait.. no later than September 10? Is that for registering to vote? or actually voting?
I was under the impression that you had to send in your request for an absentee ballot (being already registered) around the end of September up until a few weeks before election day. |

Even if you're registered to vote, I would double check to make sure you're on the list for an absentee ballot. Can't hurt.
If you are somewhere like Japan, there shouldn't be a problem getting your vote counted if you mail your ballot promptly. Unfortunately, some of us live in places where mail "service" is a joke. I don't have much faith in getting my vote counted this year, or even receiving my ballot. |
