Hi All,
A fellow foreign staff member went to the airport in Beijing (from Tianjin)and was stopped twice to have his temperature taken. I was planning on heading that way Sunday for some site seeing. I'm tired of being cooped up in Tianjin. What's the mood of the city like? Are places like the Forbidden City, Silk Alley or the Pearl Market open? We keep hearing rumours but nothing concrete.
Thanks,

Thanks. Four of us are going to Bejing in a rented car with a driver. Hope to find some good bargains with the smaller crowds. |

A colleague recently mentioned to me that SARS in Tianjin is a current threat. This was a suprise to me as for the time i have been here i had seen no signs until lately. A visit to a Starbucks amazed me. One of the staff was coughing outrageously as they were preparing a coffee. No effort made to cover their mouth or the coffee in front of them. One female staff member was wiping tables and she also was coughing very hard (same type of dry cough they warn of regarding SARS).
Has anyone heard of identified cases of SARS in Tianjin. |

Haha! I can't wait for SARS to hit again and it will! It will be great to watch the country do the same irrational stuff like closing down english schools. Glad I am not going to be there for that again, good luck all! |

Pearl Market and Silk Market are opened. All bars and clubs are working again and I recommend you to visit Vicks, Mix, Latinos and the Bla-Bla pub at one of the Foreign Language Universities [the special line of subway goes straight to that place from DaBao Hotel - I think it's around 2nd Ring Road] - actually ask about the latter any foreigner. They usually know You can hit YaBa Lu - Russian area - they have nice market where you can buy lots of cheap clothes
uh, check the SunLingTon [my spelling in pinyin sux!] - the-all-famous-bars-and-cafes-street - they have couple of big shopping centers near the bar street where you shop as well for cheap stuff

Tianjin
I have recently come across several people in Tianjin wearing the SARS mask! The same white medical type mask masses of people were wearing when SARS was very alive. Has anyone heard of SARS type symptoms in Tianjin. The IELTS trianing center i work at hasnt said anything, but then again this would be the last of their concerns given the way they run the centre. |
