This uni is recruiting and the Foreign Affairs Director seems very up front. He informed me that he had an American teacher die of SARS already and wanted me to consider this as we negotiate for September 2003.

I have heard that the campus is far out of town as is possibly confirmed by his statement that the school would provide free transportation for shopping once a week.

Can nayone here give me any real info on this school or Guangxi University which is also recruiting and looks to be a better choice from the initial information they provided.

According to reports in HK the Uni asked the family of the teacher to sign a document stating that he did not get SARS at the Uni.

If he didn't get it there, you can be darned sure he left some of it behind there as a present.

I originally was going to go to SPU for this year, but changed my mind at the last minute because my wife prefered Shenyang. I also had a good impression of their FAO. The pay was better than average, but then so is the cost of living in Shenzhen.

I had told them that I didn't consider the deal closed until I got my signed and sealed copy of the contract and they had not gotten that to me yet in early July, so I jumped ship and went with my current school. I have been told that the teacher who died of SARS (Oh, I forgot, that never really happened!) was the person that they recruited to fill the position I backed out of. Now that is a bit of a sobering thought. Shocked
