|
|
My school says I don't; I think I do.
I changed jobs after six months of a one year contract. I have a multiple entry one year visa that is valid until next month.
I have a new experts cert and residents permit that is vaild until the end of my contract next year.
Can anyone tell me for sure, do I need to renew my visa.
Thanks for you help. |

The residence permit controls so you are good until that date.
See: http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?t=12417 (fifth entry down).
The expiry date on your multi-entry visa is the last date you can use it to come and go from China. Once expired, if you leave China, you will need a new re-entry visa to get back in. You can arrange this before you go.
Too, if you leave during the valid period of your multi-entry visa, they won't even ask to see your residency permit. If you leave AFTER the expiry date of the current visa, you will need to show the residency permit at the airport as THIS is the proof of your continuing permission to be (i.e. reside) in China. If you have no re-entry visa, they will keep the residency permit and you (and your school will have to start from scratch when you come back. If you arrange the re-entry visa before you leave, they'll check your residency permit to make sure you have continued to have permission to stay here after the expiry of the Z visa, and hand it back to you because you also have (via the re-entry visa) permission to return and continue living here.
You can either...get a new multi-entry visa, now, if that's important to you, but most schools would place the cost on you. Or you live legally on the residency permit and deal with the re-entry issue when it next arises.
Clear as mud, I know...but hope this helps. |

Assuming that you have a "Z" visa - your school is right. Your visa allows you to enter China - your green book allows you to stay here.
If you have a job when your green book and visa expire, then you only need renew your green book. You will need a new re-entry visa next time you leave China. In effect, once you have your green book, your visa is of no use to at all. But you must have a "Z" visa to obtain a red book and green book - they cannot be issued against "F" & "L" visas. The fact that your visa will have expired when you come to renew your green book is of no consequence.
When you leave your school, the red book must be returned to the school - it is their property; you keep your green book - it is your property, and allows you to stay in China until it expires. If your school tries to withold your green book, they are breaking the law.
Those are the current rules in Beijing. |
